FAQs
  • INTACT is the International Network to Analyze, Communicate and Transform the Campaign against Female Genital Mutilation.
  • INTACT is currently managed by the Population Council’s West Asia and North Africa regional office with funds from UNICEF, UNFPA, Diakonia and the Wallace Global Fund.
  • Within the Population Council INTACT is subordinate to the Development and Communications Unit. The project is led by the Network Coordinator. INTACT governance consists of three separate bodies that range in their composition from internal over mixed to external stakeholders:

    •  The INTACT steering committee comprises founding members of the network and has been enlarged by others who have become increasingly involved in the network over the years. This committee provides guidance regarding INTACT's activities, feedback on the network's accomplishments, and recommendations for improvement.

    •  The advisory group brings together internal and external stakeholders of the network as it is composed of the original FGM Task Force and practitioners working in the field. The advisory group adds value to INTACT's work by providing insights and ideas from different stages as NGO representatives come from the national as well as governorate or village level. The fact that the composition of the advisory group is dynamic, not static, also contributes to keeping INTACT's work up to date with the latest developments and requirements.

    •  The external donor steering committee consists of donors who fund INTACT activities. The role of this committee is to monitor accomplishments of INTACT's objectives set forth and provide opinion and guidance on the network's activities and operations.

  • •  INTACT creates and distributes a variety of platforms and resources in English, Arabic and French to be used by researchers, academics, activists and organizations, especially local NGOs in countries with high FGM prevalence. The basis for this strategy is the belief that the distribution respectively translation of primary sources in the local language greatly enhances the effectiveness of regional researchers and organizations.

    •  INTACT creates and compiles databases, forums and mechanisms to effectively share and distribute information in the field of FGM. This strategy is considered beneficial / conducive to supporting researchers and practitioners by providing convenient access to studies, research and resources as well as linkages to useful individuals and organizations working in relevant fields on a continuous basis.

    •  INTACT carries out a number of activities to increase the public awareness of FGM as a central human rights and health issue such as a series of lectures and roundtable discussions, national as well as international seminars and publications on recent happenings in the field.

    •  INTACT works with local NGOs to both increase the amount of information available to them and their colleagues and to help develop greater capacity and expertise in various areas relating to their work. Underlying this strategy is the belief that INTACT, through the assistance of the Population Council and other international partners, has the resources and the ability to properly train and improve local capacity and expertise and therefore serve as an essential link between financial and organizational resources on the one hand and local contacts and hands-on experience on the other hand.

    •  INTACT continuously increases its contact lists in width and depth to expand the outreach of the various communication means, namely English-speaking E-Newsletter, Arabic-speaking newsletter, Lecture Series, National Seminar and Capacity Building Workshops.
